How many of us reread the same books over and over again? I watch my children do this. They will read a particular book over and over until it is threadbare, dogeared and stained from who knows what. I too have some books that I read again and again. Why do we do this when there are hundreds of thousands of new books published each year. I read lists and reviews and make my own lists of books to read that in a hundred lifetimes I would never finish. Yet when I need a book to read there are times when a new book won’t do, it must be one that is a reread. Why? Comfort, familiarity, fond memories…a few of my reasons. What are your reasons? Which books do you find yourself reading time and time again?
My latest reread is Anita Diamant’s The Red Tent. A beautiful piece of biblical fiction. Tells the story of Dinah, daughter of Leah and Jacob who was barely spoken of in the book of Genesis. Here in Diamant’s book she comes to life along with her Aunties and brothers. I am halfway done and am enjoying it more than the first time I read it. I am listening to it so that might help. I can already see it spawning another mini reading tear. This time most likely other biblical fiction.
